Its been a grand 2013. Riders Cycle Centre is still here and looking fit and well for the future. I even got my ugly mug in a cycling publication (see header pic. The pink helmet) I rode my bike and even squeezed in a holiday. I rode the Ronde Van Vlaanderen with the chaps from Skipton Cycling Club and also attended a few Sportives. My Moser road bike had the pleasure of my company for many miles this summer. Time well spent. I partook in my first “chain gang”. Exhilarating and fast :). I cycled & climbed Mt snowdon and Mt … Continue reading
Jumping with the seat post to high and hucking at Herts Shore back in her infant days. Wish I had my old Cyclone jersey. Learning to huck and jump in my fleece and trousers. Over shooting transitions and going to big for the bike. Great days.
Mr T invited me for a morning jaunt ont moor. A nice way to start the day. The sun was out, the birds were tweeting and the tyres were screeching.
Round number 4 @Lee Quarry. The final round of the Brownback racing series for 2013. Round 3 resulted in an early bath. A broken seatpost whilst leading the awesomely titled “Silverback class” had me ducking under the course tape and back to the car, tail firmly between legs. Chin up. Round 4 beckoned and an opportunity to redeem myself. The usual race machine was put to bed and the tough full suss bike was drawn from the stable and prepped for action. BBC weather forecast, Channel 5, Met Check, last weeks Country File on Tivo all gave the same lousy … Continue reading
With only a few weeks to go before the 3 Peaks Cyclo Cross race I began my assault upon its reputation. Youtube, Google and Flickr where worked overtime to feed me the information needed to conquer the legend, to summit Yorkshire triplets, to go where no man ha…………………. Bloody hell, I’ve only a week till the 3 Peaks and I have no Cyclo Cross bike. Where is the phone. “Hello. Mr Pickard of Jedicyclesport. It’s Stuart from RCC. Can you help me”. Now don’t deny it. We all like to look at everyone else bikes. Before we even make eye … Continue reading
Up a mountain and up a volcano. One sounds a little more daunting than the other but both made me feel on top of the world. Back in July my micro adventure http://riderscyclecentre.com/?p=1696 took me to the summit of Mt Snowdon, a night under the stars and an early descent down the Rangers Path. It was a great opportunity to test my new MTB and to enjoy a solo 24hrs with the bike and beautiful views. Holiday time and I was off to Sicily with Jade and the girls. Our apartment graced us with the most magnificent view of Mt Etna and a … Continue reading
A Sunny Sunday morning sipping coffee. Lavender honey on Jades toast mixes with the smell of fresh ground coffee beans. Blue tits and sparrows jostle on the bird feeder and soothing tunes float around the living room. Calm. 2 hrs later and I submerge myself in the polar opposite. ITS RACE TIME. I feel sick, nerves. Will I ever stop feeling sick before kick-off. I’m high on caffeine and an energy gel. My legs are shacking. Other riders are looking at me, I’m looking at them. GOD just blow the whistle. Let’s get this show on the road. “You will … Continue reading
Location. Riders Cycle Centre on a Friday afternoon 2 days before the 2013 Etape Du Dales. Andrew collects his Trek road bike and ask’s if I am taking part in the Etape. “Not this year. Not for me. Get’s a bit repetitive and monotonous when you know the roads and what torture lays ahead, so I think I’ll miss this one out thanks“. “Pity. Just heard Jon has withdrawn so his place is available” “Oh okay then. I’m in“. ” Do you want a lift from Haworth to the start and a lift back” “Cheers but I think Ill … Continue reading
